By doing this, protesters are claiming they want to bring attention to problems we have in the nation. To me, it is just one big gripe session sit-in; one in which they do not provide any solutions to the problems they are complaining about. For instance, look at the incident in Oakland, California. Protesters closed the Port; however, then some of them incited a riot which caused lots of property damage to store owners that are part of the 99%. The â€Å"Occupy† movement has gone global. There are protesters in London and Ireland with riots breaking out causing all kinds of property damage. Does this really help the cause of the â€Å"Occupy†; hurting the pockets of the 99%? I do not see how the â€Å"Occupy† is helping any city they come to protest in. I am not seeing any influx of money to the cities. As it stands, I am seeing rioting, property destruction, and charity being given to the protesters that could help the less fortunate of the city. By inciting a riot causing property damage, they caused businesses to pay money for repairs and incurred lost of income by having to be shut down. This was money that these small businesses couldn’t afford. I believe in practicing our civil rights; however, any protest should be peaceful and follow the guidelines within the law. We do have problems with our economy. We do need change. I’m not sure that camping out is the way to get the change to take place. I believe we need to find people to put into positions to be able to help get changes into place. He likes to play the guitar and he likes girls. Matt, Philips, older brother is dating the girl he likes Cara. Cara is a popular girl at school. The book takes place in a town in the outskirts of Los Angeles, California.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Throughout the book Philip is trying to keep his family alive. The book starts in Philips room when he is playing his guitar. Then he goes down to dinner. The next night him and Matt go to the dance at their school. Matt is talking to a lot of girls so Cara takes Philip to dance on the dance floor. Then after the dance Philip goes home to practice his guitar and then he went to bed. The next day Matt barrows some money from Philip. That night at dinner Philip and his mother get into a very big fight.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Philip gets his guitar and goes in to the bomb shelter. Then Matt and Cara go down into the shelter to try to cheer him up. After a little while of talking they hear a very loud sudden sound. Matt opens the top of the shelters door and see’s a very bright dome shaped light. He jumps back into the shelter as fast as he could. Cara started freaking out and crying. A few minutes after the bomb stuck the earth Matt went out looking for his mother. After a while Philip starts to get very worried and goes out to check if Matt is all right. He see’s Matt trying to pick up his mother up so Philip goes and helps his brother pick up his mother and take her to the shelter.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Philips mother is very severely burnt. She has burns all over her body from head to toe. Matt starts getting radiation sickness and throughs up. Philip goes to see if he could get help. Mean while the shelter starts to get real hot inside. Then Philip returns and gets his family to go next door to take shelter in the next door neighbors house’s basement. They stay cool there until all of the fires the bomb started go out and until the air gets better. After the fire goes out Philip and Cara go to explore.

With everything that has happened in our country in the last few years many people are becoming more patriotic. Since 9/11, our nations flag has flown high, more students are saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and many cars now carry symbols of support for our troops. However, even with this new outlook on patriotism, some people are beginning to wonder if our actions are even patriotic at all, including our servicemen and women. Is it patriotic to fight in a war that many deem unjust? Or is more patriotic to flee to another country in protest without finishing your military contract? Our troops have been in Iraq for five and a half years now and there is no sign of retreat. However, this does not give our military personnel an excuse to just give up and throw in the towel. I believe the only way for our troops to show patriotism is to stay in our country and fulfill their military contractual agreement. Since 9/11 there have been many reports of soldiers fleeing the country. According to CBS News, the estimates are between 100 and 250 to date (Soldiers). When certain soldiers were asked why they fled, the answer was always the same. They just couldnt take it. If this was the case, then why did they join in the first place, especially if they joined after the attacks? Everyone in the country knew we were going to war, and everyone knows why our military exists. How patriotic is it to join the service only to flee your family, friends, and, most importantly, your country when things get a little rough? Fleeing like a dog with its tail in between its legs only shames yourself, and, in some measures, America for producing such a fine citizen. Many people deem the war at hand unjust, and some would go to the extent that war itself is unjust. It claims the lives of many of our best citizens, creates inflation, and causes civil unrest and arguments between our government officials. Although some claim this war is unjustified, it is necessary. Do we want our country to be full of tyranny, ran by money-hungry, power-tripping dictators who dont care about our well being, but only about the amount of money in their bank account? Our men and women serving this country are doing the best they can to preserve the freedoms our forefathers worked so hard to win ten scores ago (Wiesel). Our country  is so great that people can flee this country without being shot for it. So why go? Is it just because you dont agree with the war? Running off is a great demonstration of protest against the war, that is, if you are talking with the other handful of individuals that ran off with you. In the larger scheme of things all you are doing is b eing pointed and laughed at. An outstanding portrayal of patriotism is in our own Pat Tillman. He gave up a $3.6 million contract to go and fight for our country (Reid). Selflessly, he gave up everything he had, and eventually his life, to go and support America when she needed it the most. Some may think his death was just another wasted life, but the majority of Americans look upon him as a hero (Sudborough). It is not because of all the sacrifices he made, or because he played for the NFL, but that because of him, along with many others, I am able to write this essay today for a class that I am taking at the college of my choice so I can grow up to do what I want to do. Not everyone has the opportunities that Americans have, and it is due in full respect to our military, or at least the ones that stay and fight for our country. The biggest argument of all is that this war is for our government, not for our freedom or America (Zinn). This is true to an extent, but if you think about it our country is our government and vice versa. Without our country there would obviously not be an American government, but without our government there is no America. Our government is what protects our freedoms, and it is that freedom that we fight so passionately for. It is easy to argue for both sides of this argument. Both fleeing the country and fighting in a war take guts, but you must ask yourself which is more patriotic. Leaving the country you love, or fighting to your death to make sure that your children and grandchildren can enjoy the same freedoms you did growing up? There is only one answer to this question. You fight until the end, whether it is your end or the wars end. History of Colombia Colombia was inhabited by indigenous societies during what was known as the pre-Columbian period (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). These indigenous societies consisted of hunters and nomadic farmers, as well as the Chibchas (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). The Chibchas are known to be one of the most developed indigenous groups in all of South America (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). Santa Marta was founded in 1525, which was the first permanent Spanish settlement (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012).Santa Fe de Bogota was founded in 1538, and in 1717 it became the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Granada (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). The capital of New Granada is what is now Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). In 1808 Napoleon made his brother the new king of Spain and people in the Spanish colonies were not happy with it (Lambert, 2 011). Citizens of Bogota created the first representative council against Spanish authority on July 20, 1810 (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). In 1813 they got complete independence from Spain (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012).In 1819 Simon Bolivar defeated the Spanish in the war of Boyaca (Lambert, 2011). In 1819 the Republic of Greater Colombia was created and it included everything of the previous Viceroyalty of New Granada (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). Simon Bolivar was the first president and Francisco de Paula Santander was elected as vice president (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). The creation of the two main political parties, Liberal and Conservative, were led by conflicts going on between the followers of Bolivar and Santander (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012).Bolivar's supporters formed the Conservative Party, and Santander's followers created the Liberal party (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia, † 2012). Colombia's history is known to be filled with violent conflict (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012). Two civil wars were the cause of rivalry between the Conservative and Liberal parties: The War of a Thousand Days which took place from 1899 to 1903 and killed about 100,000 people, and â€Å"La Violencia† (the Violence) which took place from 1946 to 1957 and caused about 300,000 deaths (â€Å"Background Note: Colombia,† 2012).From the 1960s to 1980s the guerillas and cocaine production in Colombia started to increase (Lambert, 2011).
